Layout Design

Honest History is a children’s magazine that was founded in 2018 by Brooke and David Knight. Their mission is to share important, well-researched stories that inspire kids to make a positive impact on history themselves. I was brought on to design the layout for Issue 19, which is about Australia and is titled A Land Called Oz. My challenge was to refresh the visual style of the magazine, but without making the new issue unrecognizable from the previous 18. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant art of Australia and the boundless curiosity of the magazine’s readers, I created layouts infused with a sense of movement and play, being sure not to overpower the incredible work of the issue’s illustrators.
