Cover Redesign

In class, we were challenged to redesign a book cover. I chose American Gods, as it was one of my favorite reads of 2020 and I feel it deserves a more current cover that appeals to a broader swath of readers! My American Gods cover shows a diagram for a 6-step coin trick. This imagery, alongside the woodcut type, conjures up thoughts of hustlers, conmen, and magicians, priming the readers to meet the wily Mr. Wednesday. The hands, an eerie neon green, seem to float and glow against a black void. The text is interspersed among the steps of the diagram to encourage viewers to engage with both. Upon further examination, viewers may notice that the coin trick is impossible- it would require real magic to pull off. This represents the duplicity of the American Gods, and the great trick at the heart of the story.
